Are you new to smoking cannabis?

Maybe you've just received your medical marijuana card or your state or country just legalized cannabis for recreational use.

Many first time tokers get a hold of some green herbs and are like.. Now what? Well if you're in that boat let me lay down some information to help you decide how to smoke your marijuana

Papers

This is one of the most iconic ways to smoke marijuana. It can take practice to roll the perfect "joint", "doobie", or "marijuana cigarette" or you can also purchase a roller to make this task easier. There is a large variety of papers to choose from check out my blog going into more depth about different kinds of papers here. I would suggest a hemp paper, unbleached grab yourself a pack of Raws.

Pros:

  • Papers are inexpensive
  • A pack of papers is small and discreet to carry around or have in your home
  •  Smoking a joint is an easy way to share in a circle with friends
  • Suitable for smoking at home or on the go

Cons:

  • Takes a 5-10 to smoke a joint not good if you're in a rush
  • A large "dose" if your new to cannabis and you're smoking it by yourself
  • Left with a "roach" (the end of a marijuana joint) to dispose of or keep.. but they do stink

Blunts

Blunts are like joints but the paper is made of tobacco, and is larger than your standard 1 1/4 papers. Potheads have been at war from the beginning of time the fight of which is better- a joint or a blunt? Personally I like joints more, but it's just a matter of opinion

Pros:

  • You get can extra head rush from the tobacco
  • Good to share with friends
  • Takes practice to roll a nicely shaped blunt

Cons:

  • It's made of tobacco
  • Might be harsh on your throat
  • Smoke feels heavy on your lungs
  • Changes the taste of the cannabis smoke
While blunts are not my fave, I do enjoy sharing the occasional one with friends

Pipe (metal, glass, ceramic)

I would say this is the easiest way to smoke marijuana since there's no real skill involved. Grind, cut or finger pick your herb to a semi fine grind, throw it in the bowl of your pipe then set it one fire and inhale. You can purchase a pipe made from glass, metal, or ceramic or you can fashion your own pipe if you're creative enough..

Pros:

  • Small so it's concealable
  • Quick way to consume exactly how much cannabis you want
  • Many different styles, colors, and designs to choose from

Cons:

  • Hard on your throat
  • Requires cleaning, gets clogged
  • Breakable/destroyable regardless of what it's made of
  • Smells of cannabis resin
Here's my cute mushroom pipe I took it out into the forest! The pouch is from Dime Bags and is padded for safe storage and transportation

Water pipe (glass soft, boro, acrylic)

This is my personal fave way to smoke marijuana.

Pros:

  • Water filters the smoke and makes it easier on your throat/lungs
  • Quick way to consume exactly how much cannabis you want
  • Many different shapes, colors, sizes

Cons:

  • Requires water changes and depending on usage cleaning.
  • Breakable, oh so breakable :(
  • Requires a safe spot for storage or display in your home

It takes a bit of experimenting to find out your favourite way to smoke marijuana
